Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents, Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. The couple made the move to Oxfordshire when she was five and attended the Dragon School. From the age of six years old, Emma was aware that she was going to become an actor and for a long period of years she was trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre academy where she learned about dancing, singing and acting. At the age of ten, she had performed and acted as the lead in several Stagecoach productions and school plays. In 1999 the casting process started for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) which was the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was identified by casting agents via her Oxford theatre teacher. After eight continuous auditions David Heyman revealed to Emma and Rupert Grint (other applicants), that they had been given the roles of Hermione Gringer, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. Emma's first appearance on the screen was with the release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It was the top-grossing feature in 2001, breaking records for opening-day sales as well as opening-weekend take-offs. The film's performances as well as those of its three young stars received praise from reviewers. The Daily Telegraph, a British publication with a significant readership, described her performance as "admirable". Then, Emma was nominated for five awards for her performance in the film, winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in an Film. Film.
